Qualifications: Education/Certification: High School Diploma Must be 21 years of age
Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of standards of a child care center and child development Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience: Experience in a licensed childcare center
Major Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Read and become familiar with the TDPRS standards and the GELC policies and procedures. 2. Demonstrate competency, good judgment, and self-control in the presence of children, parents, and staff. 3. Relate to children, co-workers and Director with courtesy, respect, acceptance and patience. Project a positive attitude at all times. 4. Attend all meetings and scheduled staffing meetings. 5. Recognize and respect uniqueness and potential of all the children, their families, co-workers, Director and their cultures. 6. Maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, SBS and SIDS training/certifications. 7. No abuse, neglect or exploitation of children. Report suspected abuse, neglect and exploitation to Director and TDPRS. 8. Know and comply with the standards for child care centers. 9. Supervise children at all times, adjusting as needed for different ages and abilities of the children. 10. Interact routinely with children, parents, co-workers, and Director in a positive manner. 11. Foster a cooperative rather than a competitive atmosphere. 12. Foster developmentally appropriate independence in children through planned program activities. 13. Prepare environment weekly, indoors and outdoors, for art, music, science, dramatic play, manipulatives, and practical life activities. 14. Plan and carry out program-circle time and concepts to be taught. 15. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not corrected to supervisor immediately. 16. Participate in staff development activities to improve job performance and meet state childcare licensing standards. 17. Prepare all required records, filing children information and maintaining their file(s). Become familiar with each child's file and any special needs. 18. Post weekly lesson plans. 19. Supervise children at all times (Standard 746.1205). 20. Complete 30 hours of training annually (listed in Standard 746.1309). 21. Ensure continuity of care for children by sharing with incoming caregivers information about each child's activities. 22. Assist with meal and snack times. 23. Maintain cleanliness of the class (refrigerator, furniture, mats, equipment, shelves); learn the Four Steps of Sanitizing. 24. Assist with program implementations and class needs when required. 25. Assist in training of new staff/volunteers. 26. Maintain a professional appearance and attitude. 27. Learn each child's name and communicate with the children and families in a positive manner.
28. Maintain NAEYC confidential policy. 29. Administer medications as prescribed, maintaining a medical record. 30. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
Physical Requirements: 31. Picking up toys/equipment/children from floor 32. Stooping, kneeling, walking, and bending as needed in daily routine. 33. Ability to sit and play for long periods of time working with children.
Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 60 pounds; Exposure to biological hazards.
